Home/Restylane® Injectable Filler

Many options for enhancing facial volume and reducing deep wrinkling are available today with a wide variety of ready-to-inject fillers. Each filler has unique characteristics, which can be used to maximize your results. Dr. Mary Herte has extensive experience with semi-permanent fillers and can guide your choice of injectable — from RADIESSE to JUVÉDERM to Restylane — helping you achieve the best effects for each area of concern.

What Is Restylane?

Restylane is a family of clear gel fillers made up of hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance found in our skin). It is approved by the FDA for filling moderate to severe folds and wrinkles. While most commonly used to fill in and soften the nasolabial folds (the creases extending from the nose to the mouth), certain Restylane products are also FDA approved for lip enhancement, cheek augmentation, chin augmentation, and hand rejuvenation. The family of fillers is an excellent choice for many other “off-label” uses, as well.

Dr. Herte feels that Restylane is a more structural hyaluronic acid filler and is best used for folds (marionette and nasolabial), as well as for filling in the hollows under the eye for a smoother and more rested look to the lower lid. Many patients also choose Restylane for lip enhancement and to smooth the lines around the lip area.

What Are the Benefits of Restylane?

Restylane offers a number of benefits for those wanting to rejuvenate and smooth their skin. While everyone responds differently to treatment, most patients can benefit from the following:

What Are the Different Types of Restylane?

Our team offers the full line of Restylane products, allowing us to provide the most beneficial treatment for each patient’s aesthetic goals. This includes Restylane, Restylane-L, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Refyne, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Kysse, Restylane Silk, and Restylane Contour.

Restylane & Restylane-L

Restylane is designed to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and folds, including nasolabial folds and marionette lines, and it can also increase fullness in the lips. Restylane-L includes the addition of lidocaine, which is a numbing agent also present in other Restylane products.

Restylane Lyft

Restylane Lyft has a larger particle size and can produce better “lift” or fullness in the tissue. Dr. Herte uses this extra structural lift for deeper folds (marionette and nasolabial) and for creating fullness in the cheeks and other areas of the face. Restylane Lyft can also be injected into the back of the hands to restore lost volume.

Restylane Refyne

Restylane Refyne can effectively diminish wrinkles and folds through mid-to-deep injections, which add fullness to areas where volume has depleted over time.

Restylane Defyne

Restylane Defyne is typically used to correct deep facial wrinkles and folds. Injected at a mid-to-deep level, this filler can also augment the chin area to provide a more balanced profile.

Restylane Kysse

Restylane Kysse is a lip-enhancing filler that can provide a noticeable augmentation as well as smooth wrinkles in the area above the lips.

Restylane Silk

Restylane Silk is composed of a smaller gel that offers more precise results as it augments the lips for a more shapely appearance. This filler can also rejuvenate the skin around the mouth for a more youthful appearance.

Restylane Contour

Restylane Contour is for restoring volume to the cheeks and improving definition to the midface, creating a subtle facial rejuvenation.

How Long Does Restylane Last?

Depending on how active the area being corrected is and which filler product is being used, Restylane can last approximately 6-9 months before follow-up sessions are needed. After regular maintenance of your correction, Dr. Herte has seen products still present in the treated area for up to 12 months or longer.

Are There Any Side Effects to Restylane?

Any side effects you may experience from your Restylane treatment are typically minor and temporary. It is normal to have some degree of swelling, redness, and bruising at the injection site, which should quickly fade. To minimize swelling after treatment, you can use a cold compress on the area. Avoiding the use of certain medications — like NSAIDs, aspirin, and vitamin E supplements — can also help decrease possible bruising and bleeding. Dr. Herte advises patients to refrain from touching the treated area for at least six hours after treatment, and to limit strenuous activities, sun exposure, and excess heat for the first 24 hours.

Is Restylane Safe?

Our goal at the Herte Center for Cosmetic Surgery is to provide you with the safest, most effective treatments possible. This is why Dr. Herte only utilizes brand name cosmetic injectables that are FDA approved in the U.S. Our Restylane fillers are purchased directly from Galderma, and we adhere to the Nevada Department of Health’s safety guidelines. This means we follow safe injection practices, including the use of single-use vials that are not shared from one patient to another.

After an evaluation of a patient’s needs and goals, Dr. Herte may recommend “off-label” uses for certain Restylane products, but this will be on a case-by-case basis and should not be considered promotion of off-label procedures.

How Much Does Restylane Cost?

The cost of your Restylane treatment will depend on the specific filler being used and the amount of product needed to address your concerns. During your consultation, Dr. Herte will design a treatment plan that can address your unique needs. Based on this customized plan, our team can provide you with a quote to help you budget for your treatment.
