Eyelid Surgery — Real Results Delivered Subtly

Some cosmetic procedures aren’t exactly subtle. If you have breast augmentation, a tummy tuck, or nose surgery, your results will be very noticeable — that’s often the goal. But eyelid surgery can take years off your appearance and most people won’t have any idea you’ve had the procedure. All they’ll know is that you look younger and more energetic!

As we age everything sags. Your eyelids aren’t immune. Your upper eyelids can become hooded; your lower eyelids can droop and form bags. The result can be misperceived by others, thinking you are angry, tired, or unhappy. This is unfortunate because for most people, the area of the face they notice first is a person’s eyes.

Blepharoplasty, the clinical term for eyelid surgery, can correct those issues and turn around those misperceptions. Dr. Herte has extensive experience with this delicate, thoroughly satisfying procedure.

The procedure

eyelid surgeryBlepharoplasty can involve both the upper and lower eyelids, or just upper or lower. You will discuss your goals and desires in your consultation with Dr. Herte, the two of you deciding together on the best surgery for you.

For the upper eyelid, excess skin is often the issue, hence the hooding effect. Dr. Herte makes the incision in the natural crease of the eyelid. She may then remove excess skin, excess fat pads around the eye, even overly developed muscle. Her expertise comes into play with the amount of skin removed while still allowing normal function of the folding of the eyelid skin necessary to allow the lid to close properly. Also, Dr. Herte will be able to use her experience and expert skills to inform you if possibly a browlift is the best option.

On the lower eyelid, the procedure may lift and remove excess sagging skin, tightening underlying muscle and removing fat pouches. Dr. Herte takes special care with fat on the lower lid, usually re-positioning as much as removing fat to avoid a “hollowed out” appearance. The incision on the lower lid is usually made just under the lash line for excessive skin, but if only the fat is the culprit, the incisions can be hidden.

Recovery

Recovery from eyelid surgery is not difficult. When you follow all of the aftercare instructions Dr. Herte gives you, recovery is fast and the results thoroughly satisfying.
